The lake itself is 592 meters (1,943ft) deep and is the deepest lake in the United States. The park was founded in 1902 and seeks to preserve the natural and cultural resources. Crater Lake lies in a caldera, or volcanic basin, created when Mt. Mazama collapsed around 7,700 years ago. The clarity and blueness of the water are unique to this geologic area. The lake is filled almost entirely by melted snow. The lake is only accessibly by one trail, the Cleetwood Cove Trail, which leads down to the water for access to the tourist boats.

Timberline Lodge is a mountain lodge on the south side of Mount Hood in Oregon, about 60 miles east of Portland. Built in the late 1930s as a Works Progress Administration project, this National Historic Landmark sits at an elevation of 5,960 feet, within the Mount Hood National Forest and is accessible through the Mount Hood Scenic Byway. It is a popular tourist attraction, drawing more than a million visitors annually. It is noted in film for serving as the exterior of the Overlook Hotel in The Shining.

They are the grandchildren of Werner von Trapp (1915–2007) and great-grandchildren of Georg Ritter von Trapp and his first wife, Agathe Whitehead, and the step-great-grandchildren of Maria von Trapp, Georg's second wife. The Von Trapp Children began their singing career after performing in the play The Sound of Music in 1997. Since then they have been touring in the United States and other countries. They have sung on several occasions with the Boston Pops, Atlanta, Detroit, Cincinnati, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and Indianapolis Symphonies. They frequently perform with Pink Martini band and their album with the band called Dream a Little Dream was released in March of 2014. They are picture here in Portland, Oregon
